Our 6th year Agricultural Science class
Our 6th Year Ag. Science class travelled to Rostellan Farm on Thursday 27th Feb. for a highly informative visit. They gained a valuable insight into a working farm and business. Some of the topics discussed included; dairy production, animal husbandry and feeding, calf rearing, slurry use and safety, sustainable agriculture, niche markets and artisan foods.
We are very lucky to have such a great farm business on our doorstep here in East Cork. Huge thank you to Joe and Olivia @rostellanfarmlife for a fantastic day.
On Thursday 13th March, our 4th & 5th year Ag. Science and 4th year Home Ec. students travelled to Clonakilty.
First stop was at the famous Clonakilty Pudding Factory where they enjoyed a guided tour and got to see all stages of the production. This ended with some tasty samples of the produce!
Next stop was Clonakilty Agricultural College. Students were greeted by assistant principal, Karen O’Connell. She kindly brought our students around the farm and discussed many aspects of agriculture including dairy, beef and sheep production systems, farm safety, sustainability, calf rearing & grassland management. @teagasc
Needless to say the lambs and calves stole the show!
Thank you to both stops for having us. We had a great day
