Relationships and Sexuality Education

Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) at St. Aloysius' College

At St. Aloysius’ College, we believe in fostering a positive, respectful, and informed approach to relationships and sexuality. Our Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) program is designed as a developmental process where students engage in learning aimed at cultivating a healthy attitude toward themselves and others, with a particular focus on relationships and sexuality.

Comprehensive Learning for Personal Growth

The RSE curriculum equips students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to navigate topics like sexual identity, relationships, and intimacy. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where students can explore these important issues, helping them to develop attitudes, beliefs, and values that encourage moral, caring, and responsible decision-making.

Tailored Learning for All Year Groups

RSE is carefully integrated into the broader curriculum at St. Aloysius’ College:

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Year Students: Receive RSE as part of their Junior Cycle Social, Personal, and Health Education (SPHE) classes.

  • 4th, 5th, and 6th Year Students: Engage with RSE as a block of classes within their R.E groupings.

All students will participate in a minimum of six weeks of dedicated RSE sessions throughout the school year, ensuring consistent engagement with the subject.

Parental Involvement and Flexibility

We value the involvement of parents in their child’s education. As such, parents will be informed in advance of upcoming RSE classes and have the option to withdraw their child from these lessons if they wish. However, it’s important to note that RSE-related topics may naturally arise during other discussions throughout the school year.
